We start the day by plunging into Mauritius' most famous underwater sanctuary. The Blue Bay Marine Park is strictly protected, resulting in a thriving coral garden. You will have the chance to swim among dense schools of tropical fish, parrotfish, and perhaps even spot a sea turtle in the designated snorkeling zone.
2. The Dalblair Shipwreck
Just off the coast of Pointe d’Esny, we visit the hauntingly beautiful site of the Dalblair. Wrecked in 1902, this steel ship has now become a part of the ocean, creating an artificial reef that attracts fascinating marine life. It is a unique snorkeling experience where history meets nature.
3. Aigrette Island Snorkelling:
We anchor near the nature reserve of Ile des Aigrettes. While the island itself is a protected conservation zone, the surrounding lagoon offers some of the clearest, most turquoise waters in the region. It is the perfect spot for a refreshing dip in a picturesque setting.
4. Ile aux Fouquets (Lighthouse Island) Discovery:
Step onto solid ground at Ile aux Fouquets to explore the ruins of the historic lighthouse built in 1864. This islet stands at the edge of the lagoon and the deep ocean, offering spectacular panoramic views. It is a photographer's dream, with waves crashing against the cliffs on one side and calm lagoon waters on the other.
5. Eau Bleue Experience
True to its name, this snorkeling stop offers water of an incredible, electric blue hue. Located near the reef, this spot allows you to relax in the water and enjoy the wide-open seascape of the South East before we head toward the river.
6. Grand River South East Waterfalls Spectacle
Leaving the lagoon behind, the Cataspeed navigates inland up the majestic Grand River. Lush vegetation rises on both sides of the riverbank as we approach the thunderous waterfalls. We take you right up to the cascade for a front-row view of the fresh river water meeting the sea.
